On September 17th-20th, Southwestern NC RC&D Council staff attended the 2017 Southeastern Association of RC&D Councils Annual Conference in Birmingham, AL. The conference was a valuable opportunity to connect with other RC&D Councils, present on our work, and bond as an organization.
The highlight of the conference was James Ferguson, Southwestern NC RC&D Council Board Chairman, being elected as the Southeastern Association of RC&D Councils’ Delegate to the National Board of RC&D Councils. James’ contribution to Southwestern has been absolutely invaluable over the years, and we congratulate him on an honor well deserved!
Southwestern NC RC&D’s staff also enjoyed strong representation in the program of the conference, with Lynn, Christina, and Laurel all giving presentations. Lynn discussed his experience building a successful RC&D and the importance of taking every opportunity, even when it may not pay off immediately. Christina spoke on the success of Southwestern RC&D’s agriculture program, which includes helping farmers with farm assessments and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification.
Laurel gave a join presentation with Frank Riley (Chestatee-Chatahoochee RC&D Council) and Jessica Hocz (Mountain Valleys RC&D Council) on the Appalachian Coalition of RC&D Council’s Fire Adapted Community program.
